| This month, I decided to deviate from my normal article on natural remedies for health and healing, in favor of a topic that "landed in my lap" in the most delightful and unexpected fashion . . . synchronicity. Synchronicity is the theory Jung coined as, "the inter-relatedness of two seemingly random events occurring in the same moment". Synchronicity is a part of our everyday lives; but, how many of us stop to notice the poetry of these events, or appreciate the universe tickling our conscious selves with something from the collective unconscious? For those of you who get readings, the questions of synchronicity come up quite regularly. "Is this the right career for me?" "Is this the right relationship for me?" "Is he/she the one?" "Was I supposed to meet this person?" "Why is this person in my life?" "Am I making the right decision?" "What is the outcome?" The same basic foundation exists within each of these questions . . . synchronicity. It's when we as human beings revert to a place of hope and/or fear we start undermining the poetry of synchronicity. When we spend time "hoping" or "fearing", we are really saying that our life is lacking in some way. We expend valuable energy we need in this "very moment" to formulate and build our futures, by investing it in the past (could of, should of, would of) or in the future (what if, when). We struggle, we manipulate, we try to control . . . we resist synchronicity. It's our fundamental lack of faith and our need to control that keeps mankind in the repressed, violent, chaotic state we are in. We don't just resist change (synchronicity), we run from it, we try to stop it from happening, we try to soften it into something more palatable, we suppress it, we hide from it, we try to destroy it and ultimately, we end up destroying the opportunity we agreed to upon our karmic conception and resist the moment that was intended to be our perfect teacher. So, how do we resist fear and embrace synchronicity? Because, let's be honest here, not all synchronistic events are pleasant, but they all happen for a reason and for your highest good and greatest learning. I'm sure, looking back over your life there is more than one event you thought was the end of the world that turned out for the better. A time when the collective unconscious intervened on your behalf to steer you in the right direction when you had become stagnant, too attached to a specific outcome, unable to let go of someone, or hanging on to something too tightly . . . you lost your faith along the way and became a fear based being and tried to control something. In order to overcome fear, you must refrain from letting it evolve . . . embrace fear, learn what the true nature of your fear is . . . become grounded. You are groundless when you make decisions based on fear and control. You become open and aware of synchronistic events when you become a faith based being . . . what you were intended to be. You begin to become your true self and are able to navigate your true life path with much more ease and comfort. If you are looking for something to "hang on to", something that won't change in your life, the "only" thing that could possibly fill that role is "faith" . . . not your job, not your relationship, not your money, not your home, not your family, not your children, not your health, not even your body. "Faith" in the moment is where synchronicity lives . . . you are exactly where you are supposed to be . . . whether you like where you are at or not. Do you trust that? Do you know where that is? Do you know what you were supposed to learn today; and more importantly, did you? Everything changes . . . we change/age in every moment, the seasons change, we are born, we grow old, we die, the sun rises and sets each day. Change is afoot, everyday and always. Which means there are no ordinary moments, every breath that you take is different and it's extraordinary. Do you trust that? Oriah Mountain Dreamer has a profound quote on the front of her book "The Dance" (I highly recommend this book): "What if the question is not why am I so infrequently the person I really want to be, but why do I so infrequently want to be the person I really am?" That quote speaks volumes to those who have made a conscious choice to live or manage their lives based on fear and control instead of faith . . . or, synchronicity. Now becoming more trusting in the synchronistic events in your life, good or bad, is not an easy task. Western society has set the bar of what we have been spoon-fed as true happiness not only too high, but in the wrong ballpark. Having the big bank account, the fancy house, fast car, big career are what we have been told make us happy; but look around, how many of us are "happy" with that even when we have it? Even as we achieve what we believe to be our successes, we aren't sastified; we are setting the bar higher as we achieve our success . . . almost simultaneously . . . we want "more". We never include "wanting more" when we fantasize about our dream life, we imagine happiness and satisfaction when these goals and dreams are achieved, not dissatisfaction or wanting something else. That in itself is a perfect example of how modern society poisons us into believing "power", "control" and "things" are what make us happy. We don't trust the path of synchronicity, we trust what we can see, touch and deposit in the bank . . . we have no faith in what we can't see. I challenge you to embrace the fact you are where you are supposed to be . . . good or bad . . . you are synchronistically perfect. There is a lesson in each breath you take today and every day after. Look around, notice the extraordinary life you are living. Notice coincidences, the people that cross your path each day . . . perhaps the interesting person you end up sitting next to on the plane because you missed your earlier flight. Spend a week, a day, maybe just an hour allowing yourself to feel your fear and what it "really" means, what it "really" represents . . . it becomes powerless once you give it a name or a reason. Along with facing those fears, embrace the possibility that there is a collective unconscious that guides you, embraces you, accepts you, loves you and protects you . . . all for your greatest good through a little thing called synchronicity.
